Goals:

9. State whether this is a single initiative or multiple projects, and specify the desired outcomes for
each component
.

Our project is a single initiative but involves many levels: students sharing, learning by creating, and teaching/assessing differently through the use of technology. Every curriculm requires the transmission of infomation in a format readily accepted and understood by the viewer/listener. Video is rapidly emerging as this generation's communication vehicle.
Our goals are very much aligned with the NETS Standards:

1. Creativity and Innovation
Students will demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develope innovative projects and processes using the technology. Students will apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes, create original works as a means of personal or group expression, use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues, and identify trends and forecast possibilities.

2. Communication and Collaboration
Students will use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students will interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media, communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats, develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures, and contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.

3. Research and Information Fluency
Students will apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students will plan strategies to guide inquiry, locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media, evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks, and process data and report results.

4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Students will use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Students will identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation, plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project, collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions, and use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions.

5. Digital Citizenship
Students will understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students will advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology, exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity, demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership for digital citizenship.

6. Technology Operations and Concepts
Students will demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students will understand and use technology systems, select and use applications effectively and productively, troubleshoot systems and applications, and transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies.

Students will demonstrate creative thinking while constructing knowledge and developing innovative products and processes using technology. They will use digital media and virtual environments to communicate and work collaboratively to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. In addition, teachers will use the technology to facilitate learning experiences that advance student creativity and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. They will plan and design authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating these contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students need for workplace success in the future.

The initiative is three-tiered with development of skill sets at each stage:
1. digital still usage
2. video/audio recording
3. editing

From even earlier:

This is a single initiative with almost limitless impacts. Video is rapidly emerging as this generation's communication vehicle. Every curricula requires the transmission of infomation in a format readily accepted and understood by the viewer/listener.

Jeffrey: (YOU CAN DELETE THIS AFTER YOU GET MY POINT) I made a
page for the NET Standards (These are the national standards but I assume the state and district standards are based on these) These would make a great basis for project goals and the wording is all there. Here is a sample of district writing goals for 6th grade (didn't want to list them all but just wanted to give you an idea of how to focus on district goals as well as technology goals)

Apply a writing process that includes preparation, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing to produce a written document.
• generate ideas and select one topic on which to write
• organize thoughts about the selected topic
• write a draft about the selected topic
• revise the draft and edit for content and conventions, including spelling
• generate a legible final copy for presentation
• publish and share with audience other than teacher

1006.12
Use different modes of writing for different purposes and audiences.
• write descriptive pieces (poetry, ballad, journal entry)
• write narrative pieces (creative story, personal narrative, autobiography
• write expository pieces (written direction, book, culture report)
• write for the purpose of narrating

1006.13
Use writing as a tool across the curriculum.
• notes
• outlines
• lab reports
• journal entries
• research reports
• science logs
• math logs
• note taking
• daily assignments

1006.14
Use ideas that are well developed, clear, and interesting.
• idea is clear and focused
• well-supported, developed detail

1006.15
Use organization to enhance understanding.
• organization flows smoothly
• write a cohesive piece with a clear beginning, middle, and end
• use a variety of organizational strategies (webbing, concept mapping, clusters, brainstorming)
• use transitions to allow ideas to flow smoothly within paragraphs
